Jacques Lacombe : opening concert of the Tanglewood Music Festival

The Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières (OSTR) congratulates its artistic director and conductor, Jacques Lacombe, to whom the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) entrusted the direction of the opening concert at the prestigious Tanglewood Music Festival, launching thus its 75th season on Friday, July 3rd 2015.

Marking the United States Independence Day, this concert will bring together the works of American composers John Harbison, George Gershwin, Aaron Copland and Duke Ellington, and will be performed by renowned pianist Kirill Gerstein, with the participation of the great Jessye Norman. Last summer, Jacques Lacombe made his debut at the Tanglewood Music Festival, one of the most acclaimed such festivals in the world, which is also the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and he feels "very honoured by the confidence shown by the BSO, which I am eager to join again in Tanglewood's beautiful country setting and in this anniversary season".


A native of Trois-Rivières, Jacques Lacombe has gained international recognition for his artistic integrity and his close relationship with the orchestras he conducts. Artistic Director of the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières and Music Director of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Lacombe was also Principal Guest Conductor of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal from 2002 to 2006 and Music Director of the Philharmonie de Lorraine, in France.

Invited by many orchestras and opera houses of prestige, Maestro Lacombe has also performed at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at Berlin's Deutsche Oper, the Bavarian State Opera as well as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. He has had the opportunity to work with many renowned artists such as Yefim Bronfman, Marc-Andre Hamelin, Lang Lang, Andre Watts, Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, Renee Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu, Frederica Von Stade and Roberto Alagna. He also directed several recordings released under the CPO and Analekta labels and broadcast on PBS, CBC, Mezzo TV in Europe and Arte TV in France.

Jacques Lacombe received his musical training at Trois-Rivières' and Montréal's Conservatoires de Musique and at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. He was named a Chevalier de l'Ordre national du Québec and is a member of the Order of Canada.


Founded in 1978, the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières is now led by internationally renowned conductor Jacques Lacombe. With its 54 professional musicians, the OSTR is distinguished by the quality of its programming, which gives their place to the important masterpieces of the grand symphonic repertoire, to creations and to renowned soloists, in addition of developing initiatives for students and young musicians from the region. Recent accolades include the Felix award for Album of the Year - Classical/Vocal, the 2014 Juno for Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral Performance, the Louis-Philippe-Poisson Arts de la scène award (2014), the prix Opus Concert de l'année – régions, for two consecutive years (2012 and 2013), the Initiative of the Year Award (2013) and two Gold Records.
